The time that it was
Some looked out for words
Some befriended silence
Some lost faith in God
Some gained faith in themselves
Some gave up on the world
Some promised to never give in again
Time being time
Flew at its own pace
Slow for some
In haste for the others
Some survived the suffering
Some suffered the survival
A billion tears echoed
Retreating from the cosmic edge
For the universe is bigger
Than our biggest suffering
And we are a voiceless mass
In this deaf cosmos.

I wrote this at a time when the pandemic was at its peak. Sometimes 'it is what it is' does wonders over how 'it should be' or 'it should have been'.
To me 2020 was a moment of collective vulnerability, a kind of lull that had brought humanity face to face with its raw self. All the grandiosity, inventions and artistic feats were warped within a question mark that screamed aloud one word: Survival. Survival might not have much value but it remains an essential prerequisite to all our dreams and visions.
Those were the times when all I could afford to hum was Leonard Cohen's line:
"There's a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in...."
Love and light.
